Friday, August 29 the big raffle ticket drawing took place at the Uptown Cafe in Italy. Karen Mathiowetz was busy stirring up all the raffle tickets in a big silver bowl. Doris Mitchell then began to dip into the big silver bowl and pulled out two winning raffle tickets. The two lucky winners were: Doris Mitchell and Kelly Lewis.

Doris won two $50 gift cards, one for David’s and one for Varner/Fina. Kelly Lewis won a computer, keyboard, mouse, printer and two free computer checkups valued at $50 each from Express Electronics.

There were winners all around because not only did Doris and Kelly win, but $170 were raised for the American Cancer Society.

“People ask me all the time, why I do this. I have lost so many people to cancer and I know what it feels like to hear a doctor say, ‘You have cancer.’ Three women from Italy were just diagnosed with breast cancer in a two week period. I don’t feel like I have a choice,” explained Karen Mathiowetz, one of the Italy Relay for Life team leaders.
