With only three months until December, you might want to put some of your energies toward Christmas. Yes, shopping is one way, but think about having fun in a live drama about Christ. Bethlehem Revisited is fun to watch and a blast to participate in this story from out of the past.

The living story is told by King Herod, the Shepherds and Mica at The Inn. The story includes the birth of Christ in the manger. You will also see Three Wise Men on camels. Mary rides the donkey through town and the townspeople go through their daily lives. Livestock roams the village and the Tax Collector expects everyone to pay their taxes as they enter the gates of Bethlehem. The Roman Guards hail their allegiance to Caesar and carry swords.

The Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce built the “City of Bethlehem” about 10 years ago with the help of local businesses and patrons and is approximately a city block long. There is The Inn, the Jewish Temple and little shops along the way. It progressively receives more visitors every year. The cast has about 150 men, women and children, who speak as if from the times of old – all of kindred spirits and hailing from all denominations. Sellers in The Marketplace call out to sell fresh produce, spices or goat’s milk. You are unable to truly purchase items but it is so much fun to try.

Everyone can be involved, it is a family affair. Auditions begin Saturday, September 6 at 10 a.m. at the Chamber of Commerce building in Waxahachie at 102 YMCA Drive. More auditions will resume on October 12. The next meeting will be November 6 at the Presbyterian Church at 402 College St. for the actors and participants. There will be more rehearsals throughout November. December 4 is the final dress rehearsal and performances for the public run Friday, Saturday and Sunday, December 5-7 and December 12-14 at 6 p.m.-9 p.m. each evening behind the Presbyterian Church.
