Friday, September 12, at 4:30 p.m. members of Italy Relay for Life team and members of the Italy Volunteer Fire Department could be seen out on Main Street asking for help to “Fill the Boot.” Everyone was out on the street holding signs and holding out the “Boot” for donations to the American Cancer Society.

Fire departments put on “Fill the Boot” fundraisers for many different charities. The Italy Volunteer Fire Department chose the American Cancer Society to help this time.

Many cars stopped and lots of money was put in the boot, thrilling the three little cheer leaders (Cassidy Svehlak, Morgan and Madelyn Chambers) who had been chanting, “Fill the Boot, Fill the Boot." Our little community of Italy came through again. $655.73 was raised in about a two hour time span.

Tommy Sutherland (Italy Fire Department volunteer) said, “It is our pleasure to help with anything we can to help fight the fight against cancer which eventually touches all of our lives.”
