Lady Gladiators JV take Covington Owls by storm
The Lady Gladiators traveled to Covington on Saturday. The JV won their match against the Lady Owls but the Varsity was defeated in 4 sets.
Coach Jennifer Reeves set the tone today with a big smile on her face. The Lady Gladiators JV won against Covington on Saturday. "JV won the 1st game 26-24. They came from behind to win a hard fought battle, then ended up loosing the second game, but it was also close. They had a couple of mental errors and missed several serves. That dug them a hole at the beginning that they couldn’t quite make it out of. But they fought hard the whole game and hung in there 25-23.
“Since our setter went out with a wrist injury last week, we had to make a few adjustments and it took a couple of games. But once we figured it out and got used to it, they came back and won the third game 25-10.
“Bailey Bumpus and Jimesha Reed both played the net well with six kills each. Melissa Smithey had three kills and Kyonne Birdsong and Marisella Perez both had two kills. Jimesha, Bailey and Melissa were also my best servers with 15 aces between them.
“I am really proud of my JV. They are working so hard this season. These girls are my babies because they were in Junior High when I got here and it has been such a pleasure seeing them grow and mature. I am so proud of the way they work. It’s fun to work with a group that has such great attitudes. They are getting better and better every game.”
The Lady Gladiators Varsity lost their games against the Covington Lady Owls in 4 sets.
The next matches will be here Tuesday, September 30 against Waxahachie Advantage Academy. The JV begin the games at 5:30 p.m. with Varsity to follow.
