Jan Libal was born in Carthage, Texas and was raised in Louisiana, right on the bank of Cado Lake in a little town named Moorings Port. The town was named after a river boat captain named Mooring. Her father moved his family to Texas when he was transferred by his company.

After Jan graduated from high school, she married and had a family. She started her career late in life. When asked how she became interested in being a nursing home administrator she replied, “When I was about twelve years old I lived down the street from a nursing home. It was summer and I didn’t have much to do, so I started visiting the residents and I would actually make fudge for the little old ladies that I visited. It is a wonder I didn’t kill them all, but I guess that started my career!”

Jan received her education at the University of Texas in Austin. At the time, 200 hours was the required class time for this career choice. After she completed her class time, she took her board exam, personal interview and then received her license. You are required six months of training under another administrator. “In order to be an administrator you must pass a test on state regulations and on national regulations,” explained Libal.

Libal was the administrator at Heritage Oaks West in Corsicana for over a year.

Jan took a year off and stayed at home. Her friend Rose Aldama convinced her that she needed to go back to work. Rose worked on the weekends as an RN at Trinity Mission and convinced Libal to come and talk to the them about working there. Libal had an interview and started working as the administrator for Trinity Mission at the end of July.

“I love it here, this is a very unique little home. Italy is very fortunate to have it. The owners (Covenant Dove) are very easy to work with, they are very giving and very resident focused. They are generous with anything we want to do pertaining to the residents. Our rehab department is second to none. It is just excellent,” stated Libal.

Jan has two children, Jana Jones and David Jones.

“I love to quilt on my off time,” said Libal. “I owned a quilting shop in Corsicana for about four years.” The name of her shop was The Quilters Nest. She sold quilting supplies and also taught quilting classes. She has been quilting for about 15 years.

“I love being here at Trinity Mission. The entire staff works beautifully together. They know what each other does. They just do what ever needs to be done. They all like each other and they have been working together for years. I am the newcomer,” said Libal, "and they have welcomed me with open arms, it is really nice here.”
