The Italy City Council honored the Italy Youth Athletic Association (IYAA) at a special meeting called Monday evening.

Mayor Frank Jackson read a proclamation naming Oct. 14 as IYAA Day in the City of Italy.

Jason Escamilla, president of the organization, accepted a framed proclamation as well as a silver cup honoring the efforts of the organization’s volunteers.

Jackson said, “This recognition is long overdue. Everything the IYAA does is special. We appreciate all the work you do.”

Escamilla said the organization’s success is due to the coaches and volunteers. “They do all the work,” he explained as he motioned toward the IYAA board, “as do the kids.”

Individuals involved with IYAA include Micki Bland, Randy and Becky Boyd, Barry Byers, Jason and Misty Escamilla, Andrea Hooker, Ken Norwood, Michelle Walton and Gary Wood.

Cake and refreshments were served following the presentation.
