National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony
On October 27, the National Junior Honor Society inducted 17 new members and installed new officers for the 2008-2009 school year.
Italy High School principal, Mr. Scott Herald, welcomed the audience and explained, “This group is roughly 25% of the class. It takes a lot of effort to get here.” He explained it requires an 88 average in the core classes. Also, a teacher must give his/her recommendation.
Herald’s daughter, Lauren, led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance and Pledge to the Texas flag to begin the event. Bianca Evans started the induction portion part of the ceremony and further criteria of membership was described:
- Scholarship Destani Anderson explained to the new members they should continue to learn
- Service Megan Richards talked about opportunities to help others
- Leadership Jase Holden charged the new members to have wholesome influence on the school
- Character Ross Stiles defined it as a force inside each one to give individuality, which is achieved not received
- Citizenship Heather Hilliard explained it as a willingness to serve to preserve democracy
Katelyn Bales and Holli Love presented pins to the new members as they were required to sign the membership book.

Each pledged and accepted their responsibilities. Megan Richards and Kaitlyn Rossa read poems to instruct each new recipient of their charge.
