The Italy High School Regiment Band hosted a spaghetti supper Saturday night at the Uptown Cafe to raise funds for equipment, uniforms and camp. Door prizes were given at 30 minute intervals throughout the evening to help entice the public to attend. Shirley Culum, one of the family members of sophomore Kaitlyn Davidson working the event, said, “We’ve had a great response from the community. It has only been an hour and the head count is 70!” Ms. Culum took money at the door while customers were waiting to be seated in the Italian-style decorated cafe. Other parents and family members worked along side band members cooking, serving and washing dishes. Mr. & Mrs. Billy Burkhalter, Brianna’s parents, drew tickets and gave away door prizes that included:

Brighton bracelet
Brighton earrings
Brighton key chain
McCall candle
Donated by the Plaid Donkey

Plush blanket
donated by Woods Body and Repair

Dairy Queen Gift Basket
donated by Dairy Queen of Italy

2-Half hour facial
donated by Misti Pendleton

½ off 1st Hypnosis session
donated by Belinda Gibbons
3-½ hour Upper Body Massage
donated by Kalee Hodges

At the end of the evening the count was approximately $1400 raised for the award winning I H S Regiment Band.

In October, the band entered the UIL 1A/2A Marching competition held at the Waco I S D Stadium. The band earned its first ever Superior rating in UIL marching. Band director, Jesus Perez proudly reported, “We were one of only four bands in the class A conference to earn a division one rating.” Also, the band participated in the Troy Marching Invitational, a contest intended to help bands prepare for the Waco competition, receiving 2-1-2. And, Italy traveled to Teague for the 8th Annual Teague Marching Invitational. After a superior performance, the band not only received 1 ratings from all three judges, they were also selected as Best in Class. All meaning vast improvements from the previous year.

This has been a rich year for I H S Regiment Band, only the beginning of the best to come.
