It was a proud and happy group that was gathered at Avalon ISD in Superintendent David Del Bosque’s office Thursday afternoon.

Tony Hernandez (Avalon ISD Volleyball coach), Paul Wisden (Cedar Valley College Volleyball coach), Superintendent Del Bosque, Bruce Gatlin (Kimberly’s dad), Laurie Gatlin (Kimberly’s mom), Danielle Gatlin (Kimberly’s sister) were all waiting anxiously for Kimberly to sign “on the dotted line “with the Cedar Valley College Suns volleyball team.

Kimberly Gatlin has attended Avalon ISD for the last eight years. She plays basketball, softball, track and field, and volleyball for Avalon ISD. She is also involved with the one act play and 4-H. But her specialty is obviously volleyball which coach Paul Wisden spotted right away, “I am here today recruiting and signing Kim. She is a phenomenal player and great at the net. I think she is going to be a great asset for us, and a great help in rebuilding our volleyball program.”

After Kim signed the Letter of Intent, they then slid the document across the table to her father to sign. “I am so proud of her I can’t begin to explain how proud I am of her,” exclaimed her father.

“If it wasn’t for Coach Hernandez (Avalon ISD Volleyball coach), motivating me the whole season, I probably wouldn’t be here today signing to play volleyball at Cedar Valley College with Paul Wisden. I have loved it here at Avalon ISD. I wanted to go to the next level in volleyball and now I get the chance. I am a Sun now!”

Superintendent Del Bosque stated, “ This is our sixth year with our volleyball program and this is our first signing. We are very proud of Kim, very proud of our coach, very proud of our program and it’s progress."

Tony Hernandez Avalon ISD Volleyball coach said, “Kim will be missed but we know she will do great at Cedar Valley, and we are very proud of her and for her.”

It was a very “Sunny” day at Avalon ISD.
