TXI has donated approximately 2 acres of land to Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties for the site of a new regional kitchen facility. The property is located at TXI RailPort, a 1,700 acre business and industrial park in Midlothian, Texas. Meals on Wheels plans to build a 12,000 square foot building where it can begin to cook and prepare meals for the homebound elderly and disabled citizens in its two-county service area.

Vinsen Faris, Meals-on-Wheels executive director, said: "We are very appreciative of TXI’s generosity with this gift of land. We are excited at the possibilities it will bring to Meals-on-Wheels and the community at-large.”

It is expected that Meals-on-Wheels will initially provide 1,100 meals at the projected opening of the facility in 2010. “This is an incredible opportunity for us, as it will solidify our future, and allow us to better serve those who need services,” Faris continued. “This location is in the very center of our two-county area.”

Meals-on-Wheels plans to raise $3 million dollars for the facility’s construction. In addition to the gift of land from TXI, pledges in excess of $500,000 for this project have already been received. With planning for the project well underway, the official announcement of the campaign to build the kitchen facility is scheduled to come after the first of the year.

“TXI is excited that we can play a part in this very worthwhile and important project for the citizens of Ellis and Johnson counties”, stated Maurice Osborn with TXI. “We feel that Meals-on-Wheels through their volunteers is a prime example of people helping people, and TXI is pleased to be able to continue to support organizations like this that make our communities a better place to live.”

Railport, a rail-served business park south of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, has been developed by TXI Real Estate, a division of TXI. TXI is the largest producer of cement in Texas and a major producer in California. The company is also a significant supplier of aggregate and concrete products, and has long been a major developer of business and industrial parks in Texas. In addition, TXI is a leading North American recycling company. TXI shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “TXI”.
