Matilda Jerry Williams and Shermalita Alexander Watson are the proud owners of “Just Fish” a new restaurant that opened in March of 2008 in Avalon, Texas.

Both women “stepped out on faith” and followed Matilda’s life long dream of opening up a restaurant specializing in fish. Matilda explained “We didn’t have any experience in the restaurant business. Our background was in teaching and banking. So we took all of our experience from management, accounting, banking, organizational skills, everything we have learned over the years and put it into this business.” She went on to say, “Our business is based on faith. We don’t want to just serve fish to people, we want to be fishermen of men. “Just” stands for; Just Us Serving Them and “Fish” stands for; Faith Inspiration Service and Hope.

They have Karaoke every Thursday and Friday evening and often have live entertainment. Steve Hill, a country western signer out of Nashville by way of Hubbard, TX played and sang last Friday night at “Just Fish”. When Steve wanted to come and sing, he was told they didn’t have the money to pay him and he said, “I will sing for fish!”

Friday, November 21st, the band, “In Spite Of” will be performing a mixture of Jazz and Gospel music at 7:00 PM.

“Come to ‘Just Fish’, it is not a place where you come just to eat. It is a place where you come to socialize, bring the kids to meet Bubbles the fish. Then also come meet Shermalita and Matilda because we are the fun group,” laughed Matilda.

“Just Fish” is located at 102 Sissom Lane in Avalon, Texas.

Hours of business are : Thursday – 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM and then reopen Thursday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Friday – 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM
Saturday – 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM
