Bands highlighted in Christmas concerts

Music was in the air Thursday night as the Italy High School Band and Italy Seventh Grade Band performed their annual Christmas concert under the direction of Jesus Perez.

The seventh grade band performed Jingle Bells, My Dreydl, St. Nick’s On a Housetop and Rockin Around the Christmas Tree.

Members of the first year band include Hannah Brooks, Gabrielle Hearne, Meagan Hooker, Lauren McNeely, Jazmine Salcido; flute; Kendra Copeland, Ryisha Copeland, Jessica Garcia, Bernice Hailey, clarinet; Tristin Oldfield, Joseph Pitts, Hank Seabolt and Emily Stiles, alto sax. Other members are: Coby Bland, Haylee Love, Jessica Wilkins, percussion; Deiondre Cockran, Ashley Harper, Adam Michael, Martha Salazar, Joey Solis, trumpet; Shallaw Nelson and Reynaldo Salas, trombone. Others include Eric Carson, Robert Dellinger, Bailey Walton, baritone; Zain Byers, Kevin Roldan and Justin Wood, tuba.

The High School Band performed Frosty the Snowman, Ukrainian Bell Carol, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, White Christmas, Salvation is Created and The Nutcracker Suite.

Members of the high school band are: Nikki Brashear, Tess Clark, Molly Haight, Cori Jeffords, Morgan Junkin, flute; Chante Birdsong, Brianna Burkhalter, Jameka Copeland, Khadijah Davis, Paola Mata, Laura Luna, Lupita Luna, Shanta Thomas, clarinet; Megan Buchanan, Chase Hamilton, Lauren Herald, Jessica Hernandez, Chase Michael, Brandon Owens, alto saxophone; Kaytlyn Bales, Cruz Enriquez and Brianna Perry, French horns.

Other members include: Collier Jacinto, Reid Jacinto, Taz Martinez, Marisela Perez, trumpet; David Grimes, Ronald Helms, tenor saxophone; Nolan Griffith, John Hughes, Zachary Latimer, Mark Levy, Braulio Luna, Logan Owens, Adrian Reed, Michael Vlk, Craig Wright, trombone; Drenda Burk, Kaitlan Davidson, Matthew Levy and Jimesha Reed, baritone.

Rounding out the pack are: Billy Benavides, Yonatan Davila, Timothy Fleming, tuba; Gus Allen, Shane Cotter, Trevor Davis, Korey Hughes, Brett Kirton, Kaitlyn Rossa and Jasmine Wallace, percussion.

Prior to the end of the concert Chase Michael, drum major, presented Perez with a plaque in appreciation for his leadership and dedication to the band.

“I really love what I do,” Perez said. “I don’t want to be a teacher that just comes to collect a paycheck. He continued, “The end result is what makes it all worth it. They (pointing toward the band) make me look good.”
