Fire Chief Donald Chambers is excited to report that in response to an August inspection conducted by the I.S.O. (Insurance Service Office, Inc.), the City of Italy has lowered it’s previous insurance class rating of 7 (the highest being a 14) to a classification of 5. This was made possible due to some area renovations. Updates have included: water line and fire hydrant replacement, additional fire hydrant installations, new fire engines and equipment (purchased by the fire district) and grants that have been received.

This is really great news for Italy citizens because a lower class number causes insurance rates to be lower from companies such as State Farm, Farmers, etc. Therefore, a property owner within the city limits, would receive a lower insurance rate than in previous years.

In a mutual aid agreement between Italy, Milford, Forreston and Avalon, these cities will be attempting to get the current classification rating of 9 down to an 8b in areas surrounding those city limits. Property owners, outside the city limits, would then be eligible to receive lower insurance rates as well.

The surrounding insurance rates would still be higher than rates for properties inside the city limits, but at least the surrounding rates would be more affordable.
