Central Ellis County Relay Kickoff Slate
Excitement is in the air as the Central Ellis County Relay For Life Kickoff is about to begin. This year’s theme is “Celebrating 25 Years of Hope”. The kickoff will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 6:30 at the Red Oak Municipal Building.
“We are so excited about Relay this year,” said Chairperson Denise Owens. “Relay For Life of Central Ellis County will be held on May 15th and 16th at Waxahachie High School. We hope anyone interested in having a team will come to kickoff to see what Relay is about and sign up.”
Lesley Sanders, a cancer survivor and 2009 Hero of Hope for the American Cancer Society will be special speaker at this year’s kick off.
Last year there were 45 teams that raised over $145,000 for the American Cancer Society. This year’s goal is to have 60 teams. A team is made up of 8 to 15 people that commit to raise money for ACS. Volunteers are also needed to help with the event.
During kickoff, cancer survivors will be recognized and can register for the 2009 Relay. There will be food, door prizes and lots of information. Cancer survivors are encouraged to participate in kickoff as honored guests.
“We are hoping anyone that has been affected by cancer will get involved in Relay this year. The kickoff is a great time to begin. It will take all of us to make Relay For Life a success,” Owens stated.
