Obituary: Patrick Griffis, 1950-2009
Patrick Griffis, 58, passed away Sunday, February 1st, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born March 6, 1950, to Dick Jefferson and Elizabeth Riddle Griffis in Waxahachie Texas.
Patrick played football for and graduated from Italy High School, where he was Senior Class President and recipient of the Jimmy Davis Award. He later graduated from Navarro Junior College, where he was a member of Los Vaqueros. Patrick was a retired Director of Media Services for the Grand River Dam Authority, a member of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church and the BMW Car Club of America, a former president of South Lakes Men’s Golf Association, and a professional photographer. An avid auto-racing enthusiast, he competed in the One Lap of America.
Patrick is survived by his devoted wife, Rebecca Griffis of Tulsa; son, Patrick Griffis of Austin Texas; mother, Elizabeth Griffis Reynolds of Italy; his uncles, Carroll Riddle of Waxhachie Texas, Bill Riddle of Bridgeport Alabama, and their families. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, HR and Virgie Riddle; father, Dick Griffis; sister, Jane Martozie; aunt and uncle, Ivan and Virginia Sawyers; their son, Tommy Sawyers; his cousin, Kay Beatty; his mother-in-law, Nancy Cubitt; and his brother-in-law, Randall Cubitt.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, February 7th, at the First Baptist Church of Italy Texas.
