It was five years ago when the Lady Bulldogs were in the basketball playoffs. Under the coaching direction of Larry Williamson, this year the girls ended the district season in second place and will once again make a playoff appearance.

“They performed beyond my expectations,” stated Williamson. “I knew we had the athletic ability; I just wasn’t sure we would stay focused enough to accomplish this.”

The girls’ district record is 11-3 with a season total record of 13-7. There are no seniors on the team this year, so Williamson expects to take the team even further in a couple of years.

“I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished. I want to keep it going with the Junior High coming up so that in another two years we’ll, hopefully, be competing at the state level,” commented Williamson.

As a Milford graduate, Williamson is proud to be able to take the girls basketball team into the playoff season. In the 2006-2007 school year, he assisted in boys and girls sports. After leaving for one year, he is back at Milford as the Junior High and High School girls’ volleyball and basketball coach.

Coach Williamson’s assistant coach is also a Milford graduate. Coach Nikki Houston assists on the court but also in the classroom as a first grade paraprofessional.

The Lady Bulldogs played Aquilla on Monday, February 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the Hillsboro High School gym.
