IJH Track, the race is on…
Over 140 student athletes compete in the Italy IISD track program making it the largest participation sport at Italy High School. Even though the school has no actual track in which to practice or host events, team members have still managed to stay competitive for many years.
This year will be no exception. The Italy Junior High has taking off at a ribbon wearing pace. Coach Sollers is very excited about the level of talent here in Italy and just wants everyone to know how well the kids are doing.
The Italy Junior High (7th, 8th boys and girls) Track Teams recently competed at Track & Field events hosted by Gateway in Dallas. All 4 groups won 1st Place overall.
A week later, the IJH traveled to Maypearl and competed against schools that were in the 2A classification and larger. IJH once again managed a strong showing as the 7th grade boys finished in 2nd place while the 7th girls, the 8th girls and 8th boys all finished in 3rd place overall.
The IJH’s next track meet was in Mildred where they ran into their toughest competition thus far. Mexia fielded over 100 track athletes and dominated the event. Showing no give-up, Italy gave it all they had. So much so, that one 8th grade Lady Gladiator had to be taken by ambulance for treatment.
The IJH track team has continued to workout getting ready for their next meet. The JH District for all of the 7th-8th boys and girls track teams start on Monday, March 30 at Hubbard beginning around 3:30 PM.
Italy pulled out of the Kaufman and Ferris single-gender Meets due to scheduling difficulties.
Good luck to the IJH girls on Monday and and all the Italy track stars the rest of the season.
Also, Coach Sollers wants to remind everyone there is an Italy High School Track Meet Thursday, March 26 in Ferris (start time is TBA).
