Mayors for Meals
Every March, Meals on Wheels has an annual national campaign designed to increase public awareness. One of the campaigns is Mayors for Meals. On a designated day in March, Mayors across the country deliver meals to seniors in their community.
This year Terri Murdock (city administrator) and Jerry Watson (Italy resident) delivered meals for Italy.
Terri and Jerry were given a bag with two t-shirts, a map and a little bit of candy for their efforts that day.
Mayor Jackson said, “I think Meals on Wheels is a real good thing. I think that having the mayors and city administrators delivering the meals is a good way for people to know who we are. The people that deliver the meals some times are the only people the recipients see. I am very pleased to have a good staff to fill in for me when I need them to. I would have loved to deliver meals today but my arthritis has been giving me trouble so Terri Murdock is delivering meals today.”
Terri said, “This is a great program, I am excited to go out today and be able to participate and help the people in need. It is for such a good cause.”
Jerry Watson said, “I have volunteered for several years. I really enjoy doing this.”
