Monday, April 27th, at Milford City Hall, Milford’s Police Chief Carlos Phoenix was awarded the Mr. Shirle Ayers Volunteer Appreciation award for Ellis County. This award was presented to Phoenix by Shanna Dunn (Ellis County Volunteer Co-ordinator for Meals on Wheels).

Dunn explained, “I am here to present the Mr. Shirle Ayers Appreciation Award to Chief Carlos Phoenix. Shirle Ayers was one of our long time dedicated volunteers out of Cleburne, Texas and we have named it after him. Today Chief Phoenix gets it because he is so deserving and has done such a wonderful job here in Milford with delivering Meals on Wheels. I never have to do a thing for Milford. They just always take care of it. Seriously they are just the easiest community to work with. They are just always there and are so dedicated.”

Lori Moon (works with Meals on Wheels of Johnson and Ellis counties) rode along with Chief Phoenix as he delivered meals. She explained, “Riding with Chief Phoenix was a joy. It was fun. It was like being with Andy Griffith. People that maybe got on the wrong side of the law are still his bud, it was just amazing it was just cool. You aren’t going to find that anywhere but the small towns. I think he is very deserving and I think it is wonderful that he is getting this award based on what he does. He is more than just delivering Meals on Wheels he is there for all the members of the community no matter what they need. He noticed that someone needed help with house keeping – he put a bug in somebody’s ear and they got help house keeping. I mean it is wonderful.”

When asked what he thought about receiving this award, Phoenix said “I think it is great, I was surprised but very honored. I couldn’t do it without my officers. My officers are a big help in this. We all work together and get it done.”

Not only are you in safe hands with Police Chief Phoenix, you are also in very caring hands. Keep up the good work Chief!
