City of Italy and DCI Sanitation Scholarship winners announced
In a called city council meeting Monday night, Mayor Frank Jackson and DCI Sanitation owner, Dave Ingram, presented $500 scholarships to Rebecca Demoss and Trevor Davis, Italy High School graduating seniors. Applicants were required to write an essay entitled “Going Green”.
“I was really impressed with the essays that were submitted and it was very close,” said Mayor Frank Jackson. Six essays were received for consideration.
In other business the council approved the recent election canvas. Only two council members must be present to canvas the election. The City was not required to hold an election because Mayor Jackson and Councilmen Mark Souder, Sr., Rodney Guthrie and John Droll ran unopposed.
Mark Souder, Sr. and John Droll were not present at the meeting. Because of this, there was not a four council quorum which is required for called meetings. This resulted in cancellation of the meeting. The business on the agenda to be discussed or acted on was:
- Elect a Mayor Pro Tem
- Mayor to appoint commissioners
- Discuss and approve Economic Development Corporation Bylaws
- Discuss and act on inter-local agreement between Seagoville, Texas and the Italy Police Department for the access to Ominxx
- Deliberate the evaluation of the Interim Public Works Director
