Friday morning at 8:00 a.m., fifteen adults and youth from the Central Baptist Church in Italy (CBC), led by Pastor Todd Gray, left mission to the Waterfall Bible Church on the Navajo Indian Reservation located in the “Four Corners” area of Arizona (northeastern corner of AZ).

Four Corners marks the quadripoint in the Southwest United States where the states of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah meet—the only point in the United States where the boundaries of four states intersect.

The CBC group will arrive on Saturday and begin work on construction projects, lead Vacation Bible School, direct sports camps, help with the cooking, and participate in praise worship for the Waterfall Bible Church that is near Rock Point, Arizona.

The Waterfall Bible Church is 16 miles off paved road and had no running water until 2002; prior to that, the closest water was a spring a mile away. Willie Howe, the church’s Navajo pastor, had never had a Bible School before we went there.

The CBC group will help lead VBS to all age groups from toddlers through adults in this remote area. The schools are well attended and we have seen many saved and some baptized.

It is often very windy, dusty, and hot on the reservation. Some of the CBC group will sleep in the church and some in tents. However, the Waterfall Bible Church and the surrounding areas are always in need of maintenance and improvements. Therefore, the Waterfall Bible Church relies on church mission trips and their efforts to sustain it’s operations.

Since less than 10% of Navajos are Christians, churches are truly lights in a darkened land; going there is a great encouragement to the Navajo Christians. These mission trips are a blessing to the Navajos and to those who go on them; Christians grow spiritually when they get personally involved in missions.

There are several church teams from around Texas participating along side the CBC team. They will work through the week, planning to depart there on Friday, July 10, and returning to Italy on Saturday, July 11.
