What an exciting night of District Tournament softball! The IYAA is hosting the 8 & Under Girls Softball Division all week long.

Many of the Italy High School athletes stop by after their summer workouts to enjoy the games.

Ty Evans and his Milford team handled the Rice Brats 10-4 after overcoming a sluggish start. Milford, who has Italy’s Alex Jones in the lineup, stays in the chase for a District Tournament Championship

The Frost Lady Polar Bears sent a chill through the brackets after coming from behind to clip the Mildred Eagles.

Frost was down 3-runs going into their last at-bat in the bottom of the 6th inning. The Frost team managed to tie the game thanks to an overthrow at 1st base by Mildred.

That’s when Italy’s Lacy Mott, who was added to the Frost roster for the playoffs, walked up to the plate with ice running in her veins and drove home the RBI game winner in front of a packed crowd.

The clutch shot from Lacy keeps Frost undefeated in the tournament so far. However, Lacy was reluctant to sign autographs after the game knowing her job isn’t finished yet.

After the Italy Pink Panthers took an early exit from the playoffs, the IYAA had just one team remaining. In their 3rd game of the tournament, the Darlings of the Diamond coached by Michael Chambers and Ronda Cockerham, battled to a tie with the Ennis Cobras after 6-innings. The game was finally decided after an extra inning with the Cobras being victorious while knocking Italy out of the District Tournament.

Italy’s Darlings had only 3-losses on the season and two of them came in the playoffs. And of course everyone knows about their amazing comeback win in the second round. It was a great season and the girls should be proud of all their accomplishments.

Tournament play in Italy will be going for at least two more days so be sure to check out the action at Upchurch Field and enjoy a sausage on a stick from the concession stand.
