DCI Sanitation has delivered new trash cans and recycling bins to the community of Italy. The recycling bins are available at the City Hall and have been available for a couple of months.

Mayor Jackson said, “I think it is great and it is about time for Italy to go green. The citizens are really happy because a lot of them have been wanting to recycle for a while. A lot of people come into our office at City hall and they are real enthusiastic and very happy about being able to have a convenient way to recycle. It was slow at first but now more people are recycling.”

According to DCI Sanitation, “a typical family consumes twenty nine gallons of juice, one hundred and four gallons of milk, one hundred and eighty two gallons of soda pop and twenty six gallons of bottled water a year.” That is a lot of plastic and glass containers that really should be recycled.

Recyclables:

• Newspapers, magazines, white paper and cardboard
• Plastic bottles, food and beverage bottles marked with a #1 or #2 on the bottom
• Aluminum and metal cans, food and beverage cans
• Glass bottles-clear, brown and green glass, food and beverage bottles

Non-Recyclables:

• Phone books or junk mail
• Plastic wrap, bags, toys, or other types of bottles such as those used for automotive or other hazardous materials
• Scrap metal, paint cans, aerosol cans, automotive product cans, pie tins or disposable aluminum plates
• Light bulbs, plate glass, auto glass, tempered glass, mirrors, ceramics or any glass that is not a food or beverage bottle

Tips for Recycling:

• Do not put paper products in a recycle bin if it looks like rain, remember, wet paper cannot be recycled.
• Rinse and remove the lids from your plastic articles, place in your recycle bin.
• Rinse and place all aluminum and metal cans and put in the recycle bin. It is helpful if you remove the paper labels.
• Rinse and remove the lids from all glass bottles and place in the recycle bin. It is helpful if you remove the paper labels.

All recyclables can be co-mingled together in the recycle bin. If you need a replacement recycle bin just come on up to City Hall and you can get one there.
