Firemen Honored at First Baptist Church
The local volunteer fire department was recognized on Sunday at First Baptist Church. Rev. Ronnie Dabney, Chief Don Chambers and Associate Pastor Michael Chambers led the ceremony with videos of firemen at work and also a remembrance of 09/11/01.
Family and friends gathered to honor ten men of the Italy Volunteer Fire Department on Sunday at the First Baptist Church (currently there are 18 volunteers). Families and victims of 911 were remembered as well. The service opened with a rousing chorus of Star Bangled Banner. After which a video of working firemen from all over the country played while guitarist, writer and singer Dennis Buyer performed The Fireman’s Prayer. A copy of the video was obtained from Youtube:
Chief Don Chambers presented each fireman with a copy of the NIV of the New Testament. “About 8 months ago, the Firefighters For Christ, a nationally recognized organization, created a chapter in Ennis. We just want to reach the men at the station with Christ,” Chambers explained. This is an incorporated non-profit organization, established in 1976, at a breakfast meeting in Southern California. Its MISSION GOAL is to encourage firefighters to live their lives for Jesus Christ. The chapter meets quarterly in different cities and the next one slated in October will be hosted by First Baptist Church.
Associate Pastor and longtime volunteer, Michael Chambers, gave a message to the firefighters. “I challenge you to continue to do what God has called you to do. Be strong because God will give you the strength to do your job.”
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
The ceremony was followed by a wonderful meal by the families of First Baptist Church.
