The Italy High School Class of 1989 celebrated their 20-year reunion during Homecoming weekend in Italy on Friday and Saturday.

Fellow classmates spent time together at the Homecoming Game on Friday night and quickly began catching up on old times. The moment was enhanced by a Gladiator victory over Frost and the crowning of the 2009 Homecoming Queen, Drew Windham. Drew is also the niece of former 1988 IHS Homecoming Queen, Alison Hugghins-Janek, who was at the game celebrating her Class of 1989’s 20-year reunion.

On Saturday morning, a few of the reunionees met at the newly renovated Willie’s Place at Carl’s Corner, Texas for lunch. Afterwards, their was a small family gathering at the former childhood home of Sandy Brown-Marek, just outside Italy. The kids went swimming while the reunionees sat in the front lawn under tree shade and told stories from the good old days.

Later that night, the Class of 1989 partied like it was 1989 at the reunion dinner inside Sleep Inn in Waxahachie. Fajitas were served to those attending and really old music from the 80’s was blaring all night. As a fellow 1989 graduate, I’m proud to say that we were asked to turn the music down…at least change the station. Yeah, we still got it!

Tina Darrell-Campbell kept everyone entertained. I would love to tell you all the goings on after the dinner, “But what happens inside the Sleep Inn…stays inside the sleep in.”

Shush…
