Italy’s Citizen of the Month for November
“I am flattered and honored to be the Citizen of the Month. I try to live my life with respect and take pride in my town,” said Billy Copeland.
Billy Copeland was born and raised in Italy, Texas and loves his town. He serves as chairman of the deacons at his church, Mount Gilead. He helps young men at his church by giving them guidance and a push in the right direction when they are struggling. “I love my church and I love to serve,”Billy explained.
Billy served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War for two years. He was happy to serve his country. During his tour of duty Copeland was hit in his head and shoulder with bomb shrapnel and received a Purple Heart.
He worked for many years for Ellis County as a truck driver and a heavy equipment driver and is now retired.
Billy is married to Mary Copeland and has one daughter, Demetria. His wife Mary works at Trinity Mission of Italy.
“Italy is a great little town. I have been around the world to places like Japan, Thailand and Vietnam but there is no place like my home town of Italy, Texas.”
