A postage stamp to save lives

I began participating in The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in 1998. There were several people in my family that had died of cancer. I also had several friends and family members that were fighting the disease. Little did I know when my participation began at that first Relay in Minnesota, that I would be diagnosed with lung cancer eight years later. From that time, Relay took on a whole new meaning for me.

I have worked very hard to raise money so that a cure can be found. I will continue to work until that cure is found. Today I learned of a way that money is being raised by the United States Post Office. They sell a postage stamp that helps to fund the fight to find a cure for breast cancer. A normal book of 20 stamps cost $8.80. The breast cancer stamps cost $11.00. The difference of $3.30 goes to cancer research.

I have decided to only buy the breast cancer stamps. I hope by doing so I can help find a cure for breast cancer so that no one else has to hear the words that I heard that day – “You have cancer”. I hope that everyone that reads this will also only purchase these stamps. Our local post office has them in stock, so please, the next time you need stamps, decide to make a difference and spend the extra money. I know times are tough right now, but the extra $3.30 is definitely worth it. Talk to any of the women in Italy that have been diagnosed with breast cancer. I am sure they will tell you how important it is for you to buy the breast cancer stamp.
