Milford ISD’s Ag participants bring home awards
Milford’s Ag program has grown over the past two years under the leadership of Mark Jackson. Students competed at three shows this year: San Antonio, Houston and more recently at the 21st Ellis County Youth Expo.
There were several students who received high honors.
Elvia Gallegos, Jesus Ojeda and Allie Norcross not only won first in class but also won the electrical division Grand Champion for their work bench with electrical.
Russell Helms, who took first in class for his Braford Heifer, also won the individual Beef Herdsman Award. Mike Owens entered his pipe bender in the ag mechanics division and took first in class as well as the shop equipment division Reserve Champion.
Owens also placed second in American steers, Ellis county bred and third in the American steer class.
“I’ve been in ag since junior high,” stated Burk. “I like working with my hands and building things.” Senior Ethan Burk took second in class for his pipe work stand.
For his work on a pipe rack, Matthew Wilson was awarded third in class. His brother, Michael Wilson was given fourth in class for his pipe work stand.
Cheyenne Frank showed her market goat and Jose Owens showed his market hog.
At the Houston Ag Mechanics Show, Ethan Burk brought back a blue ribbon.
Red ribbons were given to Elvia Gallegos, Allie Norcross, Jesus Ojeda, Gustavo Gallegos, Scott Kelley, and Mike Owens.
