Milford ISD’s UIL competitors on the rise
Blame it on the freshman and junior classes. They seem to be the cause for Milford’s high numbers of advancement in UIL academics and track. Although there were fewer participants in UIL academics this year, almost 86% placed in district or advanced to regional competition.
Ashley Ross, junior, placed fourth in Ready Writing and freshman Octavia Frederick placed fourth in Poetry.
Rachel Strange, freshman, advance to the next level of competition in both Prose and Feature Writing. Her sister, Tapley also advanced in Prose. Tapley, junior, has advanced to regional competition for three consecutive years.
This year we have several individuals and both boys and girls relays advancing to area competition on April 15.
Ashley Ross set a school record in her Discus throw of 103 feet advancing her to Area. She also advanced in the Shot Put breaking another school record with 35’10.5”. She advanced to regionals in both.
Jamaar Davis, also a junior, set the school record in the 200 meter run with 22.9 seconds. He also advanced in the 100 meter run. Davis advanced to regional competition in both.
The girls relay team of Brittany Goss, Ra’Tara Singleton, Rachel Strange and Tapley Strange advanced in the 400 and 800. Rachel also advanced in the high jump. However, they did not advance to regionals.
The boys relay team of Jamie Johnson, Jairus Russell, Dez Buckaloo, and Lee Smith advanced in the 400 and 800 relay. The 1600 relay team of Russell, Buckaloo, Smith and Davis also advanced.
The 1600 relay team of Russell, Johnson, Smith, and Davis advanced to regional competition.
Jacob Rose, junior, advanced to area competition in the Shot Put.
Two Seniors advanced from district to area: Ethan Burk in the Discus and Scott Kelley in the 300 and 110 hurdles.
