Mayme E. Onstad, local writer and longtime resident of Italy, has published her first children’s book, Urple Fishing. It is a picture story book for kids ages 4-8 years old. Mayme has teaching principals in her stories, “Lessons they need to learn,” Onstad says.

Mayme has seven different books for children. This is just her first publishing. Each have principals of honesty, forgiveness and love.

Mayme said, “These are not complicated stories but each teach valuable lessons.” Urple Fishing has a play included in the back of the book. Onstad suggested that the children could have as much fun acting the story out as well as reading it.

Onstad’s main goals are to share the love of Christ to children and to sell enough books to have copies made in braille, which is a very expensive undertaking. She mentioned she talked to a grandmother worried her grandchild was going blind. The distraught woman begged for hard to find Christian storybooks with pictures and Mayme felt the tug of her heartstrings.

The undertaking involved some time, prayer, tons of phone calls to publishers and a lot of hard work but eventually everything fell into place and the book finally was published.

“God impressed writing in me as a child but I pushed everything to the back of my mind. When I became an adult, my church needed stories for children’s church. I would make them up, sometimes at the last minute, and they were a hit with the children and adults.”

Onstad’s creative thinking has designed skits and invented games as well. She has obtained a copyright for some of her writings.

This 24 page children’s book is $14.95, plus tax and handling. If you are interested in purchasing one, please contact Mayme at [email protected] or call 972-483-7777.
