Italy’s John Isaac wins a UIL State Bronze medal in the triple jump
John “Booney” Isaac a senior at Italy High School and already an Italy Gladiators’ sports legend, added to his mystic by winning third place in the UIL state triple jump competition in Austin on Friday.
Isaac was a standout wide receiver and defensive safety in football for the Gladiators, and most recently, finished as a back-to-back regional finalist as a shooting forward with the Italy Gladiator basketball team.
Isaac has been a role-model for the IHS student body and received a heroes send-off early Friday morning from the students and faculty before leaving for Austin accompanied by IHS head track coach Stephen Coleman and IHS athletic director Craig Bales.
Isaac’s best qualifying jump in Austin was 44 feet, 10 inches and it was good enough to earn a bronze medal to finish third place in State. Isaac had previously leaped 43’ 6.5" to finish in second place at regionals qualifying him for State. That’s an improvement of 1’ 3.5" between events. Amazing!
“I would like to thank Coach Coleman, Coach Bales, Coach Kyle Holley and Coach Robert Sollers. Coach Sollers helped to guide me during last year’s track season and I’m really glad I was able finish strong,” stated Isaac.
Congratulations John for making the Italy folks proud and thank you Coach Coleman and Coach Bales for helping John with his accomplishment.
“We love you, Booney!”
