Ervin A. Byers, once the dentist in Italy between 1960 and 1992, celebrated his 80th birthday with family and friends at the Doris Mitchell owned and operated Uptown Cafe in Italy, Texas. Also celebrating a birthday on “Doc’s” special day was his fifth born son, Brentley Byers, who was unable to attend, and instead, spent his birthday working cattle and buffalo in New Mexico.

“The birth of Brentley was the best birthday present Ervin ever received,” said Ervin’s wife, Ann Byers. Overhearing Ann’s comment, Ervin joked, “The new 37 inch flat screen HDTV I just got for my 80th birthday ranks pretty high as well.”

Ervin’s grandaughter, Lauren Byers, sent out invitations and created a memories video for her grandaddy that played throughout the party. Loved ones and friends began arriving around 2:00 p.m. to visit with Ervin and reunite with with one another.

Nancy Byers ensured guests had plenty of snacks and refreshments and handled the birthday cake cutting honors as well. Ervin’s 80th birthday cake was decorated as a wrapped present which was provided by Charlesa Sims of New Creations Cake Decorations.

Relatives from as far away as Waco, Ft. Worth, Houston, Austin and Lubbock celebrated with Ervin and enjoyed reminiscing over old times. Ervin has seven children total and almost half were able to attend: His third born son Kenny Byers, his only daughter Jane Byers and, the best looking of all his kids, sixth born son Barry Byers.

Ervin’s long-time tennis partner Gary Love attended as did 81 year old Marvin Socol and his wife Maxine. Marvin was a childhood friend of Ervin’s who lived in Breckenridge and the two would get together when Ervin would visit relatives there. Oh, and the stories they can’t tell.

Both Ann’s and Ervin’s sides of the family tree were able to attend, as well as, many extended family members. “It was great to see everybody. I can’t believe that many people showed up. I must really be wonderful,” commented Ervin.

Everyone sang “Happy 80th Birthday” to to the birthday boy and then the party wrapped up at 4:00 p.m.

The family wishes to thank everyone who helped make Ervin’s 80th birthday bash a success and for taking a few hours out of your Sunday to celebrate his special day. Special thanks to Doris Mitchell for allowing us to hold the event at the Uptown Cafe and to Lauren and Nancy Byers for all their efforts as well. Thanks Charlesa Sims for the amazing cake and thank you all for the cards and gifts.

Happy Birthday Ervin (and Brentley)!
