Remembering Elizabeth Sam — A benefit for the family of Elizabeth Sam is planned for Wednesday, July 7 from 7:00 p.m. to close at College Street Pub located at 210 N. College Street in Waxahachie.

Elizabeth Sam was diagnosed with breast cancer several years ago, she bravely received treatment and her cancer went into remission. In 2007, Elizabeth again proved her courage after an automobile accident rendered her paralyzed from the waist down, but still she kept on.

Two months ago, Elizabeth was told by her doctor that the cancer had returned and spread extensively throughout her body. Elizabeth held strong but the cancer was unfair and Elizabeth passed on July 1, her 37th birthday.

Elizabeth’s friends and family have been attempting to raise funds to cover her funeral costs. Needing a location with available space to host a benefit, the College Street Pub in Waxahachie responded and is coordinating the event. Entertainment will be provided by Los Pallos Paletas and will feature Carl Block, Sean Cangle, Wayne Strickland, Paul Jones and Neel Brown.

The benefit for Elizabeth Sam will be Wednesday, July 7 from 7:00 p.m. to close at the College Street Pub located at 210 N. College Street in Waxahachie. For additional information regarding the event, call 972-938-2062 or visit www.collegestreetpub.com.

In addition to accepting donations during the benefit, a variety of items contributed by local businesses will be raffled to raise money. Donations are also accepted via the Facebook page: Support Elizabeth Sam and her Fight Against Cancer.

Elizabeth leaves behind four children, Megan Wilkins (age 17), Brian Wilkins (age 15) and twins Andrea and Aaron Wilkins (both 13). Elizabeth’s niece Yasenia Sam, a student at IHS, and her Aunt Olitia Gaytan are residents of Italy. Elizabeth also leaves behind two sisters, Jerry and Arlene Gaytan and three brothers, David, Leonard and Roger Sam all of Waxahachie. Elizabeth’s parents Gene & Nick Sam are both deceased, victims of cancer as well.

Close friend Connie Purpura remembers Elizabeth as a vibrant woman, “Her constant smile, courage and positive attitude served as inspiration to all who knew her.”

Funeral services were held for Elizabeth on Monday, July 5 at 10:00 a.m. at the Waxahachie Funeral Home Chapel and she was laid to rest at the Lakeview Cemetery.
