The Italy City Council hired Dean Carrell of Lone Oak as new public works director at a called meeting Thursday evening.

After interviewing two candidates, the council voted unanimously to hire Carrell. Salary was set at $50,000 per year.

Carrell has worked for the City of Wylie, City of Rockwall, City of Emory, Royse City and has consulted for the City of Lone Oak, City of Cumby, South Rains Water Supply and Gun Barrel City.

He spent 17 years in city government and accumulated education in public works, fire fighting, public finance and budgeting and personal administration. He also teaches classes for employee license certifications.

Carrell is a state Certified Public Manager and is certified by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality as an Instructor, in Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, Customer Service Inspection and Backflow Prevention.

He should begin work in Italy on Aug. 2.
