Italy youth is a proven success in competition
Hunter Morgan loves competition. You might say he thrives on it. Whether it is on the golf course or on a grill at a cook off, he loves to compete.
“I gave up fishing to play golf,” Hunter said. “I like to play – it is fun. I guess I am okay at golf since I have won 1st place and 3rd place medals.”
The Stafford Elementary 5th grader qualified and will be competing at Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas on August 9th and at Waxahachie Country Club on August 16th. On a normal day, he plays a full 18 holes at the Red Oak golf course. His lowest score was a 91 and he said that he was not playing well that day.
“My favorite golfer is Camilo Villegas, a Colombian golfer,” he said. “I would like to say Tiger Woods is my favorite, but I won’t because he messed up.”
Hunter is the son of Brian and Darla Morgan of Italy. He has a lot of fun doing things with his parents and golf gives them some fun family time. They also compete in barbecue cook offs together.
“Hunter gets his love of cooking from his dad,” Darla said. “He also loves golf. He competes in tournaments with the Junior PGA.”
“My dad has always loved cooking on the grill so he decided to enter the Italy Lions Club cook off this year. He placed in ribs, brisket, chicken and pork butt. My mom entered the bean competition. We had so much fun that weekend.”
In July, Hunter entered his first cook off in West. His pork chops placed 10th. In the kids competition, there are only two categories – pork chops and desserts. He likes cooking and has fun competing so he plans to continue entering cook offs in the future. He hopes he gets better as he gets older.
Hunter loves to ride his bike, when the weather is cooler that is. One of his favorite things is attending Royal Ambassadors at Central Baptist Church on Wednesday nights.
“I like seeing my friends and learning. We do fun things and learn a lot.”
When asked if he could talk to anyone in the world, who it would be and why, he answered very quickly. “I would want to talk to God because I would ask him what heaven is like.”
Hunter said he would really like to be a professional golfer when he is older and knows he would need to go to college and compete on the college circuit first. But, out of any profession he could choose, he wants to be a doctor or dentist.
“I know the money would be nice because doctors and dentists make a lot of money. That is not why I want to be one though. I like helping people and seeing them get better.
If Hunter’s life so far is any indication of his future success, he will be successful at whatever he chooses to do.
