Obituary: Carolyn Sue Garrick , 1932 – 2010
Carolyn Sue Garrick, 77 of Waxahachie, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Baylor Medical Center of Waxahachie. She was born to the late Robert Q. & Rachael Muirhead Hankins on November 6, 1932 in Dallas, Texas.
Sue was 16 when she graduated from high school and was awarded 3 college scholarships that she was too young to utilize. She met the love of her life, Val Garrick, married two months later, and enjoyed 53 years of life with him. “Sweet Sue” also called “Meemaw” loved to talk with family and friends. She never met a stranger and was known for her sense of style and cheerful attitude. Her favorites in life were the Lord, family, helping others, the Dallas Cowboys, and any sport played by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed. Although are hearts are heavy, we know she is rejoicing in heaven with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, Val, her beloved husband of 53 years and numerous family members.
She is survived by her son, Russell Garrick of Waxahachie; her daughter, Suzann Garrick Hyles and her husband, Mike of Italy; 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Val Garrick and by her brother, Rev. B. B. Hankins.
Services to celebrate her life will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery, where Sue will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Val.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
