Obituary: Bernyce Ewing Crownover, 1926 – 2010
Bernyce Ewing Crownover, 83 of Waxahachie, formerly of Italy, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2010 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on November 28, 1926 in Proctor, Texas to the late Richard B. and Allie Morgan Ewing.
Bernyce was not a stranger to Ellis County, having volunteered and dedicating her time to so many individuals and organizations. She was named First Lady of Waxahachie. She served on the Executive Board to the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce and served on the Ellis County Child Protective Services Board for 18 years; was a member of the Shakespeare Club and was currently serving on the Executive Board to the Gingerbread House in Waxahachie for 10 years. Bernyce was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church of Waxahachie. Bernyce, along with her husband Roy, founded and operated Texas Nameplate and Identification Plates in Dallas.
Bernyce made a friend everywhere she went and was always willing to go the extra mile. When she committed to a project, she was passionate and dedicated and always made whatever she was working on a success. There are so many friends and organizations that will greatly miss her loyal service, her smile, and her love that she so willingly displayed every single day to all.
Bernyce is survived by her sons, Dale Crownover and his wife, Julie of Italy, Doug Crownover and his wife, Karen of Sunnyvale; her grandsons, Ryan Crownover of Italy, Dan Crownover of Italy, Matt Crownover and his wife, Juliana of Garland; her granddaughter, Heather Crownover of Sunnyvale; her great grandchildren, Noah, Micah, Miriam and Lydia; her nieces, Kathryn Lay and her husband, Bill, Delores Fineske and her husband, Gary, Rhonda Lewis and her husband, Jim; her nephew, Jerry Spurger; and her sister-in-law, Virgie Ewing of Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Roy Douglas Crownover; her brother, R. B. Ewing; her sister-in-laws, Delora Higginbotham, Joyce Spurger; her nephew, Roger Spurger; her aunt, Ethel Harris.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 27, 2010 at the Central Presbyterian Church of Waxahachie with Rev. Anna Whitehead officiating. A private family graveside service will be held. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2010 at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gingerbread House, 425 East Ross Street, Waxahachie, Texas 75165 or the Central Presbyterian Church 402 North College, Waxahachie, Texas, 75165.
Those to serve as pallbearers include Matt Crownover, Ryan Crownover, Dan Crownover, Sam Franklin, Troy Knowlton, and Bill Lay.
