Chicken Express restaurants throughout Johnson and Ellis counties are helping the homebound by partnering with Meals-on-Wheels for a second year in a row to put a hot meal in the hands of every needy person in the two-county area. The participating locations include Alvarado, Burleson, Cleburne, Joshua, Waxahachie, Midlothian, Ennis, and Red Oak.

Overall, 660 noontime meals will be prepared and served Thursday, December 23. This will be a savings of nearly $5,000 in food costs for the organization. Meals-on-Wheels volunteers will be helping pack and then delivering the meals into all of the service areas.

“As part of this community, we see the need to help those hungry, and in particular, the elderly,” said John Sparks, Ellis County regional manager. “And, I think this is a great collective effort among all the store managers and owners to provide to those that are needy. We are happy to be a part,” he added.

The area owners who are making special accommodations for Meals-on-Wheels’ deliveries are George Williams of Burleson, Keith Winnett of Cleburne and Joshua, and Keith Moore who owns locations in Alvarado and Ellis County.

“We are very excited about this ongoing project with Chicken Express!” said Amy Jackson, Meals-on-Wheels director of development. “We hope this becomes a new holiday tradition, in addition it is a special treat for our clients,” she added.
