Over the last few weeks, if you drive around Italy, you would see signs announcing the candidacy of several people. Candidates ask permission to place their signs in yards all over town. Several years ago, Italy Neotribune did an article about the legality of such signs. 

This year there is another issue concerning campaign signs. Last week one local candidate was told that several of his signs had disappeared. After checking with the homeowners where the signs had been placed, he realized that someone had taken the signs without his permission. 

As mysteriously as the signs disappeared, one reappeared at the corner of South Ward and Park Street. Someone has placed another advertisement on the sign. The sign now is advertising a garage sale at 924 College Street on May 6 & 7, instead of Paul Cockerham for Italy School Board. 

When contacted for comment, Paul Cockerham said, “I was not aware of this until I began receiving phone calls. It is regrettable that someone would take my signs and then use them to advertise their garage sale. I guess they thought they needed them more than I did.”
