Wild Animal Advisory from Chief Hill
For Immediate Release:
Authorized by: Chief Diron Hill, Italy Police Department
Have you seen wild animals lately in your neighborhood?
This time of year with the weather like it has been, it is normal to see coyotes and foxes in the city. This year, because of the drought, their natural food and water supply is low. All the wildlife animals are looking for food and water wherever they can so they will venture into the city and maybe even neighborhoods.
These are wild animals and you should never approach them as coyotes, skunks and raccoons are known carriers of rabies. They are nocturnal animals (meaning they are normally out only at night).
If you should find one out in the daylight, contact the Italy Animal Control or the Italy Police Department.
Coyotes are known to eat small cats/dogs, so keep your pets up at night and try to only feed your animals during the day to help prevent wildlife from coming on your property.
