The Italy Gladiator Regiment Band earned an overall first division (I-II-I) at the annual Troy Matching Invitational Tuesday.

The band earned praise from judges for consistent marching fundamentals, horn carriage and drill. Some areas of concern were dynamic contrast, set arrival/alignment and overall balancing of trumpets and percussion. Despite the minor concerns, the judges awarded the band the highest possible overall rating.

Jesus Perez, band director, informed members of their superior rating later as they enjoyed fun and fellowship at a local Mexican restaurant.

This contest serves as a dress rehearsal for the UIL region contest that will take place at La Vega Wednesday, Oct. 19.  All participating bands are rated and are critiqued in preparation for these subsequent contests.

Overall ratings for other bands participating at the competition were: Academy 2-3-2, Marlin 3-3-3, La Vega 2-2-2, Cameron 1-1-1, Holland 2-3-2, McGregor 2-2-2, Jarrell 2-2-1, Bartlett 3-3-3, Rosebud-Lott 1-1-1, Rogers 1-1-1 and Gonzales- 1-1-2

Congratulations to the band and best of luck at the UIL Region marching contest in La Vega next Wednesday!
