The late Thomas Bryan Harvey (1933-2011)

Thomas Bryan Harvey, age 78, of Whitney, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2011 at his residence. He was born February 14, 1933 in Italy, Texas, son of the late John Bryan and Lois Cora Hearn Harvey. Thomas grew up and attended schools in Italy and graduated from Italy High School in 1950.

Thomas married Charliss May Powell on December 8, 1950 and they lived in Arlington for several years where he attended the University of Texas at Arlington to study electrical engineering. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954. They moved to Milford in 1968 and Thomas was employed by General Motors Corporation for 33 years until his retirement in 1988. He served as Chief of the Milford Volunteer Fire Department for 13 years and also operated Mill Creek Contracting of Milford until health issues prevented him from working.

In 2003, they moved to Whitney where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid supporter of his grandchildren’s sporting events and rarely missed a game. Thomas was a member of the Open Range Cowboy Church near Whitney. He was, also, a member of the American Legion Post 522 and the Masonic Lodge #176.

Also preceding him in death was one sister, Barbara (Harvey) Frank Mansell and two nephews, Gary and Randy Frank.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Charliss Harvey of Whitney; three sons, David Harvey and wife, Penny of Milford, Eugene Harvey and partner, Mark Niedzolkowski of Whitney, and Kenneth Harvey of Whitney; foster son, Virgil Sprott of New Jersey; daughter, Karen Evans and husband, Larry of Milford; ten grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren. 

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 29 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel in Hillsboro with John Ince officiating. Visitation will be held from 12::00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. 

A private family interment will be held at Milford Cemetery.
