Ghouls, terror and screams in the night should be very scary but maybe not this time. The Necroplex, local haunted house, not only took care of the darker sides of Halloween this year but also gathered area actors from other haunted houses in the Metroplex and collected canned goods for the Italy Food Pantry, which was totally not frightening.

Local owners, Luin and Brenda McConnell, want to help the community, “We just want to give back to our community,” McConnell said. “We like the idea of helping the local food pantry during the holiday time when food can be scarce.” Luin and Brenda invited the actors of Dallas and Arlington haunts to the Necroplex and hosted a food drive. “All the other actors liked the idea of helping the community and brought in a lot of canned goods,” Luin explained. “We don’t mind helping anyway we can.”

Approximately 100 pounds of non-perishable food was donated and delivered to the Italy Food Pantry on Wednesday night. Volunteer Karen Mathiowetz accepted the food and was so grateful, “We serve over 70 families in this area and with the holidays coming we need all the help we can get. Our shelves are a little bare right now. We thank the McConnell family and the actors of the Necroplex for sponsoring a food drive. The food will definitely be given.”

So, the next time you hear things go bump in the night, don’t be scared. Just think it’s maybe a ghoul loading the food pantry shelves with canned goods.
