On November 14 the Milford National Honor Society hosted a blood drive for Carter BloodCare, the first of two scheduled for this school year. This fall blood drive was a success with 40 donors crowding the single portable bloodmobile.

“There were 32 units of blood donated on the day,” said Alton Chambers, NHS sponsor. “This bettered our goal of 25 units which is the usual goal for each bloodmobile. It is also notable that 14 of these were first-time blood donors. We could not have done this without the support of our staff and community. We do have a good group of student donors, and the entire senior class either donated or attempted to do so.” 

This strong showing by this year’s seniors comes on the heels of Milford High School recently receiving an award from Carter BloodCare for the 2010-2011 school year when that year’s senior class had the highest percentage of donors for schools with fewer than 200 seniors. The award recognizes the commitment of last year’s graduating class for supporting Carter’s mission of saving lives by donating blood.
