Local band students qualify for Centex Honor Band
Several members of the Italy High School and Italy Junior High bands will be participating in the Centex Honor Band Saturday, January 28, in McGregor. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. at the McGregor High School.
The Centex Honor Band competition is exclusive to 1A and 2A schools in the Central Texas area. Students from approximately 25 schools audition to be a part of the junior high band, high school concert band or high school symphonic band.
According to Jesus Perez, band director, nine junior high students and eight high school students qualified from Italy.
Those performing in the middle school band will be: Ryan Connor, second chair tuba; Jorge Galvan, first chair trombone; Amber Hooker, fifth chair trumpet; Levi McBride, first chair tenor saxophone; Angie Munoz, second chair flute; Lillie Perry, first chair baritone; Hannah Washington, third chair baritone; Brenya William, second chair snare; and Ty Windham, 8th chair trumpet.
Italy High School band members qualifying for the concert band include Gus Allen, timpani; K’Breona Davis, ninth chair clarinet; Alex Minton-Felder, first chair mallets; and Joe Mac Pitts, fourth chair alto saxophone. Those qualifying for the symphonic band are Trevor Davis, first chair clarinet; Brett Kirton, timpani; Alexis Sampley, first chair oboe; and Whitney Wolaver, first chair snare drum.
The public is invited to this free concert.
