Students recognized at school board meeting
Several Italy students were recognized at a school board meeting Monday evening.
The meeting room was filled with parents and students who were recognized for their athletic and academic competition.
Lee Joffre, principal, introduced students who qualified for state in FCCLA competition, UIL achievers, certifications and athletic winners.
Several students qualified for FCCLA state competition. They include Zac Mercer, Sa’Kendra Norwood, Marisol Rincon, K’Breona Davis (alternate), Focus on Children Star Event; Devan Payne, Kierra Wilson, Andrea Lanning, Cruz Enrizuez (alternate), Interpersonal Communications; Trevor Davis and Alexis Sampley, Child evelopment Leadership Enchancement Opportunity; and Jorge Cortez and Andrea Lanning, Job Interview Leadership Enhancement Opportunity.
Kaytlyn Bales, who placed fourth in state power lifting, was recognized with her father and coach, Craig Bales, athletic director.
Andrea Lanning and Heather Hilliard were acknowledged for earning Navarro College nurse’s aide certification.
Several junior high students were awarded certificates from the University Interscholastic League (UIL) competition. They included Marlen Hernandez, Peter Johnson and Hunter Morgan, first place overall for the sixth grade spelling team; Emily Martinez, first place in seventh grade editorial writing; Sarah Levy, third place in seventh grade ready writing; Elliot Worship, fifth place in seventh grade ready writing; Amber Hooker, fifth place in eighth grade editorial writing; Zachery Lewis, third place, eighth grade modern oratory and Samantha Owen, fourth place in eighth grade ready writing.
