During the regional track meet held at Tarleton State University in Stephenville on Friday and Saturday, Lady Gladiators, Jameka Copeland, Jimesha Reed and Kortnei Johnson represented Italy High School in their quest for state.

Jimesha Reed, a senior competing in the shot put, improved from her district results with a throw of 35’ but fell short of advancing to the finals. Jameka Copeland, a junior competing in the triple jump, scratched on all three of her attempts but will use the experience for fuel when she goes for gold next season.

Therefore, Italy’s hopes of reaching the state meet in Austin fell on the shoulders and fast feet of freshman, Kortnei Johnson. Johnson, soon felt the thrill of success after finishing in 2nd place in both the Long Jump competition, with a jump of 18’8", and the 200m dash to qualify for state in both events. Johnson, also competed in the 100m dash and, this time, was the first sprinter to break the tape with a time of 12.02 to win by two meters, again qualifying for the state meet in Austin on May 11.

Congratulations to Jameka Copeland, Jimesha Reed and Kortnei Johnson for giving your all in Stephenville and making Italy fans proud.
