Italy ISD bands perform spring concert Tuesday

The Italy Sixth Grade Band, Junior High Band and High School Band performed their annual spring concert Tuesday night in the George Scott Gymnasium.

The award-winning sixth grade band performed Power Rock arranged by Sweeney, Anasazi by Edmondson and The Banana Boat Song arranged by Story.

The sixth grade band recently captured all “ones” from the judges at a contest, the only sixth grade band in a school their size to receive the high marks.

The junior high band also captured sweepstakes at recent UIL competition. At the concert, they performed Courtlandt County Festival by Owens, Two Minute Symphony by Margolis and Funtango by Sharp.

The high school band performed Adrenaline Engines by Standridge, Black is the Color by Sheldon, Serengeti Dreams by Smith, Hymn for Band by Stuart and Ghost Fleet by Sheldon.

The junior high and high school bands combined to performing the final song of the evening Joy by Ticheli.

Perez, who began teaching at Italy six years ago, said the years at Italy have been a “true pleasure” as well as “a learning experience.”
He recognized the school administration, the school board members and band boosters and thanked them for their support this year.
The concert concluded with a video presentation recognizing senior students put together by Megan Buchanan.
During the evening, band directors Jesus Perez and Erica Miller presented awards to band members.

The R stands for students who made All Region in UIL competition, the A is for students obtaining Area status in UIL Competition, the C is for students who qualified to perform in the Centex Honor bands and the S is for senior students. Some eighth grade students qualified last fall to be a part of the Gladiator Regiment Marching Band and that is why their names might be in two bands.
