Waxahachie Independent School District, in conjunction with the City of Waxahachie and Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce, are proud to announce the inaugural Dale Hansen Football Classic. The Classic will take place September 7-8, 2012 in the new state-of-the-art Stuart B. Lumpkins Stadium in Waxahachie, Texas. The 9,500 seat facility features excellent viewing capabilities from all locations, a champion style artificial playing surface, and a spacious, three-level, 6,000 square foot press box.

Dale Hansen is an award winning sportscaster with ABC’s Dallas affiliate WFAA, Channel 8. Hansen is the weeknight sports anchor and also hosts Dale Hansen’s Sports Special on Sunday nights. Each week Hansen also recognizes a Scholar-Athlete of the Week who excels both on and off the field.  WFAA will also lend its media power to the event as the news station has graciously agreed to promote the event leading up to the inaugural kick off on September 7th.

The Dale Hansen Football Classic will feature three exhibition games – one on Friday night and two on Saturday.  Friday night’s match up will feature the Italy Gladiators and the Malakoff Tigers. Saturday will feature a double-header beginning at 4:00 p.m. The first game will highlight the 2011 Bi-District Champion Thrall Tigers against the Florence Buffalos. The second game will showcase the 2011 Division One Class 3A state finalist Alvarado Indians as they take on the Mexia Blackcats. Football fans will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to an individual game or have the option of upgrading to a weekend pass.

“We are extremely excited about working with Dale Hansen and honoring him with the inaugural Dale Hansen Football Classic. Not only is he an ambassador for the community by making Waxahachie his home, his love for children, coupled with his passion for education and sports, makes this event a win-win,” said Thomas J. Collins, WISD Superintendent.

Along with the three football games, twelve students from the participating schools will be awarded scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each and will be honored during a pre-game classic ceremony and again in the spring with a scholarship banquet.
