Every month Mayor Jackson selects a citizen of Italy, Texas to be honored as the ‘Citizen of the Month’ and this month he chose Tom Little.

Tom has resided in Italy,Texas for over twenty years. He and his wife Barbara love this town. He said, “Italy is a very nice community to live in. We have been here over twenty years and have been very happy.”

When I asked Tom why he thought he was chosen as ‘Citizen of the Month’ he replied, " I don’t have the vaguest idea. But I do try to stay active in the community."

Little has been on the Planning and Zoning Board for Italy for many, many years, He is currently on the EDC Board, and has also served on the Ellis County Appraisal Review Board.

Not only has he served on all of these committees but he has also been substitute teaching since 1989 and still is. He has given twenty-six years to the children of this town to help in their education.

Tom and his wife are members of the Italy Central Baptist Church and Tom has served as deacon there for many years.

When asked what it meant to him to be chosen as ‘Citizen of the Month’ Tom responded, “It is quite an honor, we live in a nice little town and I consider it a real honor.”

Tom and his wife have been married for thirty-three years and have two sons. Thomas is twenty-six years old and Dean is twenty-nine.

I asked Tom what he would like to say to the citizens of Italy and he said, “I would like to see more people attend city council meetings so they can be more informed of what is going on in our nice little town. I am very happy to be living in this town and would like to see it grow.”
